Skype can be installed even without a Microsoft account. In the article we will tell you step by step, how to do it.

Installing Skype without a Microsoft account: how it works

To continue using your old Skype account in Windows 8 and 10 or to create a new account without a Microsoft account, you will need the familiar version of ‘Skype for Desktop’. To install it, follow the steps below.

Close the Skype app and remove it from the tile overview. Delete the program completely. After that, re-download Skype for Windows from the Skype homepage. If you open SkypeSetup.exe, then all other parts of the program will be automatically downloaded. At the same time, you have to decide, whether you want to run Skype at Windows startup or not.

Then click on ‘Advanced Settings’. Here you can create a desktop icon, which will allow you to easily find ‘Skype for Desktop’ and not confuse it with the Modern-UI version. If you don’t want to install Bing as a standard search engine, remove the corresponding check mark.

That’s it! You will now be prompted to log in with your Microsoft account. Ignore this message by clicking on it, you can just log in with your old Skype name. Besides, if you create a new account, you also won’t need a Microsoft account.
