The laptop does not turn on: what to do?

Do not rush to take the laptop to the service center, if it doesn’t turn on or the screen just doesn’t light up. With the help of simple methods, in some cases, you can resuscitate the device yourself.

It is much more difficult to diagnose a laptop, how to diagnose a stationary computer. This is due to the dense layout of components inside the portable device. Therefore, many users when problems arise, they are in a hurry to give their gadget to the service center, where the repairs will be carried out. But don’t be in a hurry, after all , most often it is possible to determine at home, what’s wrong with your laptop. The most common problem is when the device does not turn on or restarts regularly. Let’s figure it out, what you can do on your own, without resorting to desperate measures.

Power supply

Very often the culprit of the ‘celebration’ is one of the elements, responsible for powering the laptop. Therefore, the first step is to check all the elements one by one. Starting from the outlet and ending with the contacts on the charger plug.

First make sure, that the socket is working. To do this, just try different outlets in your home. If it’s not about electricity, try replacing the charger with an identical one. If the problem has disappeared, either a damaged cord is to blame for the malfunction, or a power supply unit, or failed contacts. In that case, obviously, what is required to replace one of the listed elements, but the easiest way is to buy the whole charger. If the laptop only works when connected to the network, means, the battery is to blame and needs to be replaced.

In the case of, when you hear, how coolers make noise, but there is no image, the screen may be faulty. The rest of the hardware is probably working properly.

The most proven way is to use an analog. That is, you need to connect any monitor, and if you see an image on it, it means, that either the matrix is out of order, or the connecting cable has moved away. In the first case, a replacement will be required. In the second case, look at the specifications of the laptop, to determine, how the device is disassembled and where the same loop is located.

Also, one of the possible reasons is the failure of a discrete graphics card. In laptops, components heat up more, than in stationary assemblies due to the small size. Therefore, keep an eye on the temperature and change the thermal paste in time.

Another common case when a laptop turns on, but during operation it freezes and restarts.

Most often, this signals a serious hardware malfunction. For example, short circuit, which may occur due to accumulated dust. The most vulnerable places of the laptop are on the motherboard. Therefore, regularly clean the gadget. Otherwise, you will not be able to solve the problem yourself, and yet you will have to take the device to a service center.

Also, the cause may be overheating of the processor, which at high temperatures goes into a state of protection, so as not to fail. So in case of an involuntary reboot, pay attention to the processor temperature sensor and compare the readings with the recommended values, specified on the manufacturer’s website. You can read more about the processor temperature here.

If you see a blue screen or text on a black background during device startup, then it signals a hardware or software malfunction. Usually, the error code is indicated in the text at the very end. There are a huge number of them, therefore, there is no universal way to solve such a problem. All, what remains for you to find a solution on the Internet specifically for your case based on the error code. Often, most of the errors are very easy to solve, having done just a couple of actions. Read more about the blue screen in this article.
